This is the Live Archive, a week-to-week/month-to-month diary tracking the research journey of The Wayang Mimpi Series (Shadow Puppetry of Dreams, Bahasa Indonesia).
The Wayang Mimpi Series is a project first initiated at the beginning of 2024. The project aims to collect and recount stories about resistance and preservation through puppetry. These stories are from various individuals who are part of the Indonesian and Moluccan diaspora and contemporary generations living in Indonesia. Through this research, we explore new meanings and contexts for diaspora narratives connected to stories from the past. We explore practices over time that rise to resist oppression and preserve oneself. The Live Archive tracks the accumulation of information from all parts of the project, from interviews, material findings, library research and the production of the shadow puppetry. The site follows real events and each participant will be given an alias.
My wish for this archive, journal entries and the project is to contribute to the circulation of non-Western knowledge and to ultimately honour the bodies, stories, and spirits that have and continue to shapeshift labels of Indonesia(n) and transcend them.
